Colossians 1:9-14 (ESV)
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Main Idea: Walking in the Bible is a metaphor for how we live life, our choices, our lifestyle, etc. We can walk in wisdom or live in foolishness. We are charged to live a life of wisdom. We will see 4 truths about walking in wisdom this morning.
(Wisdom is) the power to see, and the inclination to choose, the best and highest goal, together with the surest means of attaining it. – J. I. Packer
1. Wisdom is a Life Lived for God (Col. 1:10a, Psalm 14:1)
2. Walking in Wisdom Involves Growing in Wisdom (Col. 1:10b, 1 Pet. 2:2, Phil. 1:9, Ps. 1:3)
3. God Supplies the Strength to Walk in Wisdom (Col. 1:11)
Being sensible that I am unable to do anything without God’s help, I do humbly entreat him by his grace to enable me to keep these Resolutions, so far as they are agreeable to his will, for Christ’s sake. – Jonathan Edwards
4. Wisdom is Walking at God’s Pace (Col. 1:11b, Gal. 5:25, Amos 3:3)
Teach us to care and not to care. – Prayer by TS Eliot
