Pour Out Your Hearts to God
Pastor Steve Choi
October 18, 2025

The Bible uses various terms for prayer. One of them is the expression, pour out (sha-fa). It is the idea of spilling over or flowing over. We see this word being used in Hannah’s prayer (1 Samuel 1:15) and in God pouring out his Spirit (Joel 2:28). This morning we will look at two parts: Why we ought to pour out our hearts & What should be pouring out in our prayers.

  1. Pour Out Your Hearts to God for He Cares (Psalm 62:8)

Prayers are tools, but with this clarification: Prayers are not tools for doing or getting, but for being and becoming. – Eugene Peterson

  1. Pour Out Your Thanksgiving and Praise (Psalm 42:4)

The worst moment for an atheist is when he feels a profound sense of gratitude and has no one to thank.  – G.K. Chesterton

3. Pour Out Your Complaint and Troubles (Psalm 142:2, Exodus 5:22, Habakkuk 1:2)
